Aberrations
“Clear your mind of all irrelevant thoughts and focus onto the line between reality and yourself. Now, what does it show you?”
Aberrations Explained
An aberration is the ability that forms from the connection between the user and Reality itself/himself. More specifically, tapping into the Core of Reality and his powers. As of 2058, it’s been a long running rumor that Reality’s being has split from the core and changed, leaving only the source of the powers surging throughout everything.
This is a special connection, because it allows the person to alter the realm of the universe by creating or altering things around them. It allows them to tap into a power somewhat similar to the powers that created this universe, only at a very, very small fraction of the total ability.
Aberrations are diverse powers, vary in strength, and are unique to each individual. They also have the chance to mutate and evolve. Or even give a user more access to altering reality as they gain more experience with this ability.
Those who are born with aberrations are known as Naturals. Persons that lack an aberration at birth, and later receive an aberration via an "awakening" surgery provided by the Zyndrax Corporation, are known as Artificials.
Aberration abilities are randomly distributed, with seemingly no connection between who gets what abilities. It is unknown as of yet if genetics plays into obtaining specific aberrations [ex: heritage].
It is known that some people with “Marks of Reality” are able to have a larger source of power to tap into, and an extreme level of control with their abilities. It is currently unknown how to obtain a Mark of Reality. Currently, only The Twelve and a few others are rumored to have this special mark.
Aberrations and the Soul
Aberrations aren’t just linked to a person’s body. They are naturally linked to someone’s soul. This is shown because it is known for spirits to have Aberrations after death, and some people being born with levels higher than they should have at birth.
They’re also marked with an “S” on the Stattoo, indicating that they’re soulbound.
It’s theorized that this is because a normal brain wouldn’t be able to handle the processing of the alteration of the universe itself, and also because the soul is what connects the user directly to reality. The brain is only like a computer interface.
Using an Aberration
The more the user can focus on reality, and “grasp it”, the more they can alter it. The more the user is able to alter reality, the stronger and more refined they can use their aberration.
A person has to tap into the universe around them, the “line between reality and themself” and then focus on changing the world in aspect to their set ability. Some people are natural at doing this on the fly, and some people are able to grow into using it fluently. Usually, by the time someone is the age of 13, they are able to use their ability semi-fluently.
Reality has specific laws, and the aberrations must abide to them. Examples being, fire abilities can only summon/affect fire or how being able to summon water won’t allow you to turn into a half-dragon.
Connection to Emotions
Emotions cause the aberration-center of the brain to go haywire, though it is unknown why. It’s rumored that it’s the emotional portion of a person’s soul getting mixed up with the aberration portion of someone’s soul. It could also just be a side-effect of the powers themselves, and have nothing to do with the brain. Though this “Haywire Syndrome” is able to be controlled to some degree. It’s also noted that massive surge of emotions will temporarily boost an aberrationist up a few levels on the Aberration Scale.
After an awakening, the aberration-center of the brain is hyperactive, allowing abilities to activate at random. The combination of the two results in many issues, an example is that babies born with an aberration have the power to cause damage to people and/or the hospitals they are born in due to a surge of emotions.
Awakening
An awakening occurs when the part of the brain activates, linking a person’s aberration center of the brain to the soul. This also then activates their dormant link to Reality, and the Reality Core. The awakening process can be created artificially, or it activates at birth.
Zyndrax Corporation introduced artificial awakening in the year 2031 as a surgery to activate the part of the brain containing the dormant aberration. The procedure is costly, but many individuals have sought-after it, willing to go through with the operation.
Aberrationist Level Scale
Aberrationists have a determined level scale. This level scale is seperate from the “Level” on the Stattoo. This is displayed next to the symbol and name of a person’s Aberration on their tattoo.
The scale is based upon their connection to reality itself. The more connection they have, the stronger they are. They move up this level scale with the more control they have on their ability.
Every aberrationist starts at level one, and can only reach level 12 by the normal means. It’s rumored to be able to surpass level 12 and gain a mark of reality.
There are some things that can temporarily boost someone's level up, but not permanently, such as heightened emotions.
This is the theorized, and work in progress Aberration Level Chart:
Level: 12
Description: Level 12. The highest rank an aberrationist can naturally achieve. It’s as full control over their ability that they can reach without getting a Mark of Reality. Insane levels of power. The full capacity of this level of ability and control is unknown.
Examples: TBD
Level: 11
Description: A level eleven aberrationist has insane levels of power. The full capacity of this level of ability and control is unknown.
Examples: TBD
Level: 10
Description: A level ten aberrationist has insane amounts of control over reality, can cause world-wide alteration at once.
Examples: TBD
Level: 9
Description: A level nine aberrationist has almost reached complete control over their ability. They’re able to amp up their ability to have huge amounts of reality-control with exact preciseness.
Examples: TBD
Level: 8
Description: A level eight aberrationist has large amounts of reality-control but with some instability.
Examples: TBD
Level: 7
Description: A level seven aberrationist can use their extended abilities with preciseness on a larger scale, and may start to unlock new paths for their abilities.
Examples: TBD
Level: 6
Description: A level six aberrationist can affect reality in bigger ways, with more abilities opened up to them.
Examples: TBD
Level: 5
Description: A level five aberrationist can use their abilities like its an extension of their body. Their ability use time is now based on how much they exert their power.
Examples: TBD
Level: 4
Description: A level four aberrationist is nearly fluent with the ability. Able to sustain the ability for a long period of time with more control.
Examples: TBD
Level: 3
Description: A level three aberrationist can alter a larger range of reality, and sustain the power for a longer period of time.
Examples: TBD
Level: 2
Description: A level two aberrationist can sustain their reality control for a longer period of time.
Examples: TBD
Level: 1
Description: A level one aberrationist has little control over reality. They can barely sustain it for a short period of time.
Examples: TBD
